Whether you're a self-tanning newbie or a seasoned pro, this guide will walk you through essential tips and tricks to master the art of self-tanning. From prepping your skin for a long-lasting tan to applying it like a pro, we've got you covered for a perfect, natural-looking glow every time.
Here are some helpful tips for achieving a smooth, streak-free self-tan application:
Exfoliate First
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, helping the self-tanner absorb evenly. Use a gentle body scrub or exfoliating mitt, focusing on dry areas like knees, elbows, and ankles. Avoid oil-based scrubs, as they can create a barrier between your skin and the tanner. Use on clean skin which is free from perfume or deodorant.

Shave 12 to 24 Hours Before Tanning
Shave the day before applying self-tanner to avoid irritation and let your skin’s pores close. Shaving right before can cause the tanner to settle into open pores, leaving dark dots on your skin.
Moisturize Dry Areas
Dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and hands tend to absorb more product, leading[ to dark patches. Apply a light, oil-free moisturizer to these areas before applying your self-tanner. This will help the tan go on evenly.
Always wash your hands after self - tan application - Use a Tanning Mitt
Our products won’t stain your hands right away due it’s colorless formula, however a tanning mitt ensures a smooth application. Apply the self-tanner to the mitt and blend in circular motions, starting with larger areas (legs, arms, torso) and then moving to smaller, trickier spots. If you don’t use a tanning mitt make sure to wash your hands properly.
Start with Less Product
It's easier to build up color than to remove excess tan. Apply a thin layer of self-tanner, and if you want a darker shade, you can apply a second coat after the first has dried.
Let the Tanner Dry Completely
You want to avoid smudging the tanner before it sets. Wait at least 10-15 minutes before getting dressed. Wear loose, dark clothing and avoid sweating or getting wet for a few hours to allow the tan to fully develop.
Moisturize Daily
Hydrated skin helps prolong your tan and prevents patchiness. Apply a rich, oil-free moisturizer daily, especially after showering. Avoid products with alcohol or heavy oils, as these can break down the tan.
Apply KINIKO "Cocoa Butter Self - Tan Lotion" to maintain your tan
This helps to maintain the color and ensure it fades evenly. Use a tanning lotion every few days to keep your tan looking fresh and even.
By following these tips, you can achieve a natural, streak-free glowy tan that lasts and looks fab.
